OPEN FOR DOGS AWARDS 2011

LINDA AND CARRIE WITH OUR AWARD

REMUS HAS DONE IT AGAIN!!

We are so proud

For the 4th year in a row we have just been imformed that we have again won the Category MOST DOG FRIENDLY PLACE TO VISIT WITH YOUR DOG. Thank you so much to everyone who voted for us, we really do love to have dogs visit us at the Sanctuary.

The Kennel club are impressed with the open house attitude we adopt to dogs at Remus Events. Owners seem so to appreciate the fact that they can have their dogs with them. We run two fun dog shows during the Summer and these are proving ever more popular with the  public .

Open for Dogs scheme seeks to redress the balance in what is becoming a quite Dog unfriendly world, how many times have you been turned away from events and places to walk, restaurants etc simply because you have your dog with you. In order for the scheme to really make an impact and encourage yet more facilities to welcome our dogs, it is incumbent on all of us with dogs to take great care to respect premises etc, clear up and also respect the views of others who may not quite share our love of dogs.

It was with some trepidation that Carrie and I accepted Sue's invitation to collect the Kennel Club Open for Dogs Award at Earls Court on Sunday 13 November 2011!

Emails began flying to and fro as we prepared our speech!

Finally with Sue's approval we had an agreed speech which we practised on the train journey to the event!

I have to say when my alarm woke me at 6 am, I was not so sure it was such a good idea after all!!

During the morning we received texts of support and encouragement from Sue, Fran and Vicky – we began to wonder what we had got ourselves into!

We were warmly greeted at the Press Office and made ourselves comfortable along with the rest of people receiving various awards.

Shortly we were all taken to an exhibition stand to be presented with the award by Rosemary Smart, Chief Executive of the Kennel Club.

As we were keen to "get it over with it" for the sake of our nerves, we went first and had our photos taken with the framed certificate.

Disappointingly, we did not have the opportunity to deliver our speech of thanks!

We thoroughly enjoyed the rest of the day wandering around the Discover Dogs Exhibition and watching the many displays.

As it was Remembrance Sunday, at 11 am there was 2 minutes silence, all humans stood silently in respect, A very touching moment. the displays stopped but of course the dogs had not been briefed not to bark! There were a few red faces as some owners/handlers tried to keep their dogs quiet.

We both had a wonderful day and were very proud to bring home the certificate for Remus winning Best Place to visit for the 4th year running.
