Stable Heaters Appeal

Shane and his stable heater Rosie with her stable heater Stable Heater
52 year old Shane is pictured here enjoying the warmth of his heat lamp. Tiny Rosie pony really enjoys her heat lamp.  Rosie and her friend Ted are our "Ponies in the Community". Here's what you can help us buy - a typical stable heater. Please donate to this appeal, stable heaters are badly needed for our elderly animals. Each heater costs £230.

Last year we appealed for Stable Heaters for the older horses ponies and donkeys here at the Sanctuary, we trialled the heaters that were bought by generous donation from our members and the public, we could not have been happier with what we witnessed, the horses clearly chose to make good use of their heaters, they were happier and benefitted enormously from the warmth, these horses are old, they are arthritic or have problems associated with overwork or ill treatment, it was a joy to see them enjoying the warmth,  and benefitting from it health wise.

We would so like to be able to let more of them experience the benefits, we are even more firmly convinced that these heaters are not a luxury, they are a necessity for these old and compromised animals.

We are hoping to be able to get some more stable heaters that will provide more of the older, horses, ponies and donkeys with direct heat to keep them warm on the freezing nights, this is not a luxury, we believe that it is our duty of care to provide them with this extra help if we possibly can.

Could you help towards the cost of providing heaters for the old horses and ponies at Remus? For years these animals have given their best to mankind and now its time for them to have the best that we can give them.

These are the heat lamps we are hoping to purchase. Each heater costs £230 but the benefits directly to the horses and ponies will be immense.

Please donate a heater for a horse, or towards purchasing one, absolutely anything that you can give will be so appreciated and will go towards keeping some more of our old friends warmer and happier.  Please contact us if you would like dontate to our Stable Heater Appeal.

Winter Feed Appeal

Black pony in snow on tether Bracken the horse Group of horses in the snow

This black Pony stood in driving snow. Day after day, he had no access to shelter, food or Water, despite the sub zero temperature.

We named her Bracken. We responded immediately and so desperate was her plight and condition that we wasted no time and brought her into the Sanctuary, sadly it was too late for her, she died just two weeks later , she was old, thrown out and literally starved to death by her callous previous owners. This group of horses is typical of many we see, they had no food or water, no shelter, many are mares and are in foal.

These are just three of the Horses we have helped, it was tragic that our intervention could not save Bracken but she died, warm, fed and loved, we were all saddenedby her death and the extent of her suffering and neglect.  There are many, many, more, that with your help, we have managed to save, already this Winter we are receiving phone calls and emails about horses, that you, the public are worried about, horses without food, in very poor condition, or injured and not receiving treatment, and are reporting to us, we will go to see them all and deliver the help they need, by feeding them or giving them water, or making sure they receive other help that they require, simply to survive.

This work all comes at a huge cost, our volunteers deliver food provided by Remus, sometimes twice daily to desperate horses in Essex, horses that would otherwise perhaps not survive the Winter without this intervention. Responding to calls, costs money in fuel bills for our ambulances, hay, feed will be even more expensive this winter and we will struggle to cope. Our finances are stretched and we need to provide ongoing care for our own Sanctuary animals whilst trying desperately to help these unfortunate creatures outside.

We are at the beginning of the Winter, the situation can only deteriorate and we very much need the help of the animal loving concerned members of the public to help us to help us We cannot ignore these poor animals, some will not survive if we do not help them.  Can you help us to continue this vital welfare work?.

If you are able to help by donating to our Winter Feed Campaign please, or if you can help by monitoring horses in your area please do get in touch with us.

Please contact us if you can help by donating to our appeal or if you are able to monitor horses in your area and would like to be involved.
